On a long-haul flight, a passenger refuses to switch seats so that a mother and a toddler can sit together

Resurfacing is a Reddit thread about a passenger who wouldn’t switch seats to allow a mother to remain next to her young child.

Asked how the lady even had the temerity to request a seat swap, the traveller launched into a tirade, which has since been deleted.

On a flight to Japan, the young child was seated in the centre bench, and the irate passenger was in the window seat.

The mother, who was occupying the middle spot in the row behind, requested a seat swap so that she could remain next to her young child.

The passenger declined, saying, „Not my problem they didn’t book together.“

She requested that I swap seats with her so that she could take my window seat (next to her daughter) and I would take her centre seat a row back.

The passenger continued by saying that she could have requested to swap places with someone else from the mom’s tour group or even the tour guide.

While some commenters sided with the passenger, others were incensed by the thought that someone would deny a mother the opportunity to seat next to her kid.

One remark stated, „As a parent of a toddler, I’m surprised that you preferred to sit next to someone else’s unattended toddler, vs. just moving.“

„I’m not sure what the solution is here, but it’s stupid to get upset about a mom trying to watch their own child.“
