The world’s narrowest house, built on a challenging piece of land

Let’s take a look inside.

For a true architect, there are no standardized projects.

Each job is unique in its own way. This is because people in this profession often have to solve unconventional tasks.

Sometimes the search for compromises leads to the creation of unusual objects.

A living example is an incredibly narrow house built in a suburb of Chicago.

After the construction of an American residential neighborhood, a small triangular piece of land remained with an area of only 0.04 hectares.

Local authorities struggled to sell it for a long time, and eventually, the price was lowered to a minimum.

In the end, an employee of a local architecture company named Greg Weisman purchased the land.

Despite the challenging terrain, Greg decided to build a house.

Not only was the shape of the land strange and impractical, but the house also had to occupy less than 40% of the area due to local laws.

Additionally, there had to be enough space between the building and the road.

The architect found an original solution and built a two-story house with a basement, whose shape resembles an elongated triangle with a cut angle.

The narrowest side measures only 0.9 (!) meters. The opposite side measures almost 7.6 (!) meters.

The house became a real attraction and was nicknamed the Pie House by local residents.

Externally, it truly looks like a piece of a giant cake.

The peculiar house is located right along the road. Passersby often stop to take a closer look.

Some even dare to enter.

From the narrow side, the house seems to have no space inside, not even for a small table and chairs, let alone a proper bed.

In reality, thanks to a special design, the cottage is very spacious and comfortable.

Externally, the house is clad in wood. The main feature is a high entrance with an A-shaped roof and windows with a wavy pattern.

The center of the house combines the living room, dining room, and kitchen on one level.

All the furniture is arranged along the walls, and ceiling lights hang along a line.

This way, the owner emphasized the uniqueness of the house and created a smooth transition from one functional area to another.

In the cottage, there are two spacious bedrooms.

Next to each is a small bathroom, and another bathroom is planned in the narrow part of the house next to the living room.
