A container house is more than just an expression; it is proof of creativity, hard work, and a passion for a unique and sustainable lifestyle.
Let’s explore Neil’s inspiring container house called „Box on the Rox,“ a truly alternative retreat in the heart of Joshua Tree, California.
From the construction process to design decisions to the outdoor oasis, Neil’s project is a demonstration of vision, hard work, and passion.
Neil and his friends were looking for a retreat beyond the ordinary.
They wanted a place with a captivating view and easy access to the center of Joshua Tree.
After thorough research, they found the perfect location – just a quarter-mile outside Joshua Tree National Park.
But why choose a container house?
The goal was to create something unique, fun, and perfect for spending time with family and friends.
Building this container house was a remarkable undertaking that required commitment and resilience.
The journey began with leveling the land, installing water and electrical systems, and creating a solid foundation.
Then came the real challenge, working with containers – ensuring they had the right dimensions, were pesticide-free, and were assembled correctly.
Budget considerations played a significant role and included land purchase, electrical work, permits, and more.
In the end, it was a labor of love with a total budget of about $650,000, covering not only construction but also furnishings and even a container pool.
Neil’s creativity shines in the design of Box on the Rox. Comprising three 40-foot containers, the container house offers 960 square feet of living space.
The containers were delivered on-site and expertly welded to form the unique structure.
The interiors were designed with careful attention to textures and colors, featuring bright orange accents, relaxing shades of blue, and earthy tones.
The smooth and modern floor is made of epoxy-coated concrete.
The living room is spacious, providing a cozy lounge area and ample space to relax.
The main bedroom has a comfortable queen-size bed and private access to the pool, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere with a focus on textures and colors.
The luxurious spa-like bathroom is a highlight of the house, featuring two sinks, a relaxing bathtub, and a rain shower.
A large window allows natural light into the space.
There are also two additional rooms for children and guests, with the same level of detail and comfort.
The fully equipped kitchen was designed for convenience and functionality, with stainless steel appliances, a large refrigerator and freezer, and ample storage space.
Suspended shelves keep the space open and airy.
However, the place truly shines for its outdoor features.
The 40×40-foot terrace is a work of art and offers weather-resistant furniture, a barbecue, and atmospheric lighting.
Neil’s custom giant armchair is a unique place to relax.
A rooftop terrace provides breathtaking views, perfect for stargazing.
The highlight of this container house is the custom 20-foot container pool, designed and built by Container Pool.
It offers a perfect place to cool off and relax in style.
