„Like many others, Stefanie found herself without a job when the pandemic hit.
With a lot of free time, she felt inspired to do something productive.
Stefanie spent the lockdown learning a new skill: building a customized Vardo, also known as a caravan. After months of hard work, Stefanie finally completed her project and named it ‚Misty.‘
Her mobile home may be small, but the trailer has a lot of character and even a touch of luxury that you wouldn’t expect in such a compact space!
Apart from the desire to meaningfully use her time during the lockdown, Stefanie built the Vardo to return to traveling.
In the past, she traveled in a van, but now, being a bit larger, she wanted more comfort.
Her business was completely closed when COVID-19 arrived, but she didn’t stop working. She used this time to build her trailer, ideal for her as it is lightweight and can be towed by a car or a truck.
Stefanie doesn’t have much experience in construction, but she has already renovated some houses on her own.
She used the Internet to help her in building her Vardo, in addition to her innate skill.
In total, it cost her about $15,000 to complete.
Stefanie says Misty is a ‚public magnet.‘ Many people have knocked on her door to see it and ask how she built it herself. Stefanie doesn’t mind the attention; in fact, she likes it.
„I love showing it off. This is my masterpiece. Of course, I’m proud of it!“ she said.
The small trailer measures only 84 square feet but looks more spacious because Stefanie built it diagonally, with a rounded roof.
Being only about 4’11“ tall, the space already seems huge for her.
Stefanie used birch plywood for the walls and ceilings.
She also added fragrant cedar wood, so when you enter, it has a very pleasant smell.
She intentionally placed four windows on each side to ensure airflow regardless of the wind direction, which is particularly useful when cooking.
The kitchen features a three-way refrigerator, running on propane gas like the rest of her appliances.
The sink, ordered directly from Egypt, is made of handmade copper.
Under the sink, there are two five-gallon containers for drinking water and one for wastewater.
All she has to do is use a pedal pump to flow water from the tap.
The countertop is made of epoxy resin, imitating the look of a river.
The kitchen also has a magnetic spice shelf and a pull-out shelf.
Under the bed, Stefanie stores her portable toilet and trash bin.
She also placed her two wardrobes underneath. Stefanie also created an arch to separate her bed from the rest of the trailer.
Her sleeping space has a real memory foam mattress, providing exceptional comfort.
Stefanie decorated the space with luxury items, including a glass lamp and mirrors from Morocco and a handmade lamp from India.
So far, she has traveled to 28 countries.
The trailer has a foldable terrace that adds about another 30 square feet to her living space.
Here, she relaxes and enjoys nature. Take a tour inside this beautiful customized trailer in the video here.
